Gemini AI Integrates with Nest Cameras to Monitor Activity Inside and Around Homes

Google is adding a new layer of artificial intelligence to its Nest home security cameras with a feature called Gemini for Home, offering more detailed alerts and daily summaries of activity inside and around homes.

The update allows Nest cameras to do more than detect motion or identify a person. With Gemini, the system can describe what it sees in natural language — such as noting when a delivery arrives, when a family member comes home or even when a neighbor walks by with a dog. It can also recognize more unusual activity, like animals wandering near the house.

A key feature is the “Home Brief”, a daily recap that summarizes major events recorded by the cameras in an easy-to-read format. Instead of scrolling through hours of footage, users receive a narrative overview of the day.

Google says the system is designed to help people stay informed without constantly checking live feeds. It also aims to cut down on false alerts by understanding context — for example, identifying packages, pets or cars.

Gemini for Home works with newer Nest devices and is available through a paid subscription that includes 24/7 video recording and advanced AI features.

The move strengthens Google’s position in the growing smart-home security market, where useful, accurate, and privacy-focused AI features are becoming key selling points.
