Next Generation of Investors Shines at 2025 SEM Young Investor Awards

The Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) has announced the winners of the 2025 SEM Young Investor Award (SEMYIA), its flagship youth competition that gives students hands-on experience in stock market investing and a deeper understanding of global financial systems.

Top prizes went to West Coast International School, which won both the First Place and Best Report awards. Seewa Bappoo State Secondary School earned Second Place, while Manilall Doctor State Secondary School took Third Place.

In his address, SEM Chief Executive Sunil Benimadhu said the competition aims to give young people practical exposure to investing while nurturing their curiosity about economics and finance.

The 2025 edition brought together hundreds of high school students from across Mauritius, challenging them to manage simulated investment portfolios and make data-driven decisions over a two-month period.

Launched in 1993, the SEM Young Investor Award has become a cornerstone of the exchange’s educational outreach, introducing students to the fundamentals of investing and financial markets through experiential learning. The program fosters early financial literacy, analytical thinking and innovation.

Over the past three decades, more than 21,000 students have taken part in SEMYIA, inspiring a new generation of Mauritians to explore the world of finance and economics.
