Hundreds of AI-generated Bollywood videos, collectively viewed millions of times, were removed from YouTube following an investigation that highlighted potentially infringing content across the platform.
Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had filed a legal suit in New Delhi to have AI-manipulated videos — some showing lookalikes in romantic scenes — taken down. The court had earlier ordered the removal of select videos; following an article by Reuters, platforms acted more aggressively to purge the remaining content.
One YouTube channel, “AI Bollywood Ishq,” previously hosting 259 AI-generated clips and amassing over 16 million views, was fully removed. According to YouTube; the channel was deleted by its creator, and that it prohibits content that is doctored or misleading.
With India being YouTube’s largest market, the platform faces mounting pressure to balance creative expression and intellectual property rights amid the rise of synthetic media.
