The Carmageddon franchise is officially returning, with developer 34BigThings unveiling a new entry in the long-running vehicular-combat series during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted. The game, titled Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, marks a roguelite reimagining of the cult classic action franchise.
Set for release in early 2026, Rogue Shift will launch on all major platforms. The announcement trailer showcases a blend of the series’ trademark chaos with modern roguelite progression, offering branching event maps, dynamic challenges, and permanent upgrades between runs.
Players will take on waves of enemies across multiple environments while piloting one of 15 upgradable vehicles, each featuring unique handling. The game includes 13 weapon classes — from missile racks to railguns — and more than 80 perks that enable players to stack powerful synergies and transform their vehicle into what the studio calls a “rolling executioner.”
Additional features include dynamic weather, day-night cycles, elite enemy encounters, and boss battles against monstrous war machines. Players can earn “Beatcoins” to unlock new cars, perks, and weapons through permanent progression systems.
“We are bringing something fresh to the franchise and the racing genre,” said Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, game director at 34BigThings. “Carmageddon means explore, experiment, paint the streets red, and crumple up opponents. Rogue Shift will hit with those who remember the legendary series — and those discovering it for the first time.”
Originally launched in 1997, Carmageddon became known for its chaotic combat racing and destructive gameplay. The franchise spawned sequels in 1998 and 2000 and later expanded to mobile. A planned reboot in 2015 was never released, but Rogue Shift now marks its long-awaited return.
